Loss of skin elasticity, gravity and other factors such as weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding ultimately affect the shape and firmness of your breasts. Patients who are generally satisfied with the size of their breasts can have a breast lift to raise them to their previous position.
A breast lift can improve the appearance of the breasts in several ways. It elevates the breast tissue, repositions the nipple and areola (pigmentation around the nipple), and enhances breast shape. If the areola have been stretched over time, they can be reduced in size. Women who undergo a breast lift may also seek to increase their breast volume. If this is the case, an implant can be placed behind the breast tissue or chest muscle to enlarge the breasts. It is important to remember that a breast lift can improve the position, shape and distribution of existing breast tissue, but it cannot make the breasts larger. However, breast augmentation can be performed simultaneously with breast lift to increase size and volume. If this is the case, an implant can be placed behind the breast tissue or chest muscle to enlarge the breasts.
We are well aware that scarring on the breast is a huge concern for many women contemplating this surgery. In this regard, we are very fortunate to have performing this surgery, surgeons that can lift the breast with just the periareolar incision or lollipop scar. This minimises scarring on the breast and there is no need for the anchor scar unless absolutely necessary
